Leveling Up My Art with #Inktober2024 and #Boatober2024 Challenges
This October, I’ve taken on not one, but two exciting art challenges: #Inktober2024 and #Boatober2024! It’s been such a rewarding experience so far, pushing me to sketch daily and grow both my traditional and digital art skills.
For #Inktober2024, I’ve been focusing on drawing my little panda character, Pandy, using the iPad app Procreate. Not only has this challenge been a great way to improve my digital illustration techniques, but it’s also given me the perfect excuse to familiarize myself with Procreate's brushes—something I’ve been meaning to do for a while! One of the highlights has been exploring the brush sets by Lisa Glantz, an incredible digital artist whose work I admire. Her brushes add such rich texture and depth to characters, making scenes pop in a way that I can’t get enough of. If you’re into character illustration, I highly recommend checking out her brush sets; they’re fantastic for bringing your creations to life!
Alongside #Inktober, I’ve also been sketching for #Boatober2024, where I’m experimenting with a limited color palette from Zebra’s neutral set. I absolutely love how soothing and versatile these colors are—perfect for capturing the calm and beauty of nautical themes. Working within this constraint has really challenged my creativity, and it’s been fun to see how much I can convey with just a few shades.
Both challenges have kept me on my toes this month, and I’m excited to see how my skills will continue to evolve. Whether I’m adding new techniques with digital brushes or experimenting with color palettes, these daily practices have been a game-changer in boosting my creativity.
