2025 Goals for My Art Journey
I can't even believe we are into 2025 already. The past few months were a bit rough but I'm excited to get back into the swing of things starting today, the start of Lunar New Year!
There are so many things I want to do this year, but the three main things that I want to focus on this year are:
1) Focusing back on my watercolor fine art.
2) Purging my house of things I don't need anymore.
3) Focus on self care.
My primary focus this year is on watercolor art goals, specifically growing my fine art practice. Watercolor has always been at the heart of my creative process, and I think I walked away from it a bit last year. I'm looking forward to making it the main focus of my work again. To support this focus, I plan to launch a new mini collection every 4-6 weeks, providing fresh and meaningful artwork that resonates with art lovers and collectors alike. I am hoping that this approach not only aligns with my passion but help me do a better job expressing my dreams and ideas thru art.
An important part of my fine art business growth strategy involves taking actionable steps to increase visibility and connect with local art communities. This year, I’m actively researching local galleries, fairs, and exhibitions to find opportunities to display my work. One exciting milestone came recently with a piece from my latest mini collection, the Cairn Collection, which was displayed at a local gallery for about a month and a half. The feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive, and just really help to affirm the value of stepping into these spaces to share my art with a broader audience.
The Cairn Collection holds a special place in my heart because not only because of its meaning to me but it also represents my commitment to experimenting with new mediums and subjects. I think I'll write a separate blog to talk more about the process and inspiration behind this collection, but for now, I guess it’s just worth noting how these two new paintings are already shaping the direction for this year.
While I still have a lot of love for surface pattern designs and greeting cards, these two will have to take a backseat as tertiary goals for the time being. My main priority is to try and build my fine art practice and dedicating the necessary time and energy to get this moving again.
A surprising and fun development for 2025 is my actually secondary goal: exploring the comics industry. This was inspired by my husband’s love for comics. For Christmas, I had created a comic book cover illustrations for him which he promptly shared on his Facebook, and the feedback we received was beyond incredible. It really opened my eyes to a possible new creative avenue. This year, I’m eager to dip my toes into this fun industry and see where it takes me - provided that I finish working on my primary goals first.
I’ve decided not to pursue wholesale opportunities in 2025, as my focus is fully directed at growing my watercolor fine art practice and exploring new artistic ventures. By narrowing my goals, I think I can dedicate myself to creating meaningful, impactful artwork that fuels my passion and allows me to continue evolving as an artist.
And that's it for now my friends. I'm going to try and stay "focused", as that's my word of the year. Thank you all for reading this all the way thru! See you next time.
